Papi's Shoes

She loves to walk in her Papi's shoes.

She will request some "elp" to get into the shoes, often with the left shoe on the right foot, and the right shoe on the left foot.

She likes to have a hand, or two to walk around the house.

Lately she has been getting more brave, and will walk around without a hand. Or in my case, she will walk over to me, then take my hand and lead me around the house.

We have finally convinced her to wear the shoes the proper way, with her heel by the heel of the shoe, instead of having her toes by the heel of the shoe.

It tends to work better that way.

She loves Papi's shoes, his boots, Mom's pink sneakers, and of course Mom's yellow fluffy slippers.

She has tried to get me to wear her shoes a couple of times. She gets a kick out of me putting the shoes on the tips of my toes.

Luckily she has not tried to get me to walk around in the shoes. They really don't fit me at all!!

An extension of this, I believe, is her new found love of putting her socks and shoes on Clifford. He looks adorable wearing her socks and shoes!

For now, I'm hoping that Clifford sticks to wearing our shoes. Those shoes are really not going to fit very well on Clifford.

She's SO Big

She is relaxed and all ready for bed.

She is nursing on the left hand side, but is starting to pull uncomfortably.

I ask, "Would you like to try the other side?"

Effortlessly and without further thought she unlatches and quickly says "Yay!", with a giant smile, and a big hug for her baby doll.

So, we switch to the other side.

She is such a big girl.

She understands the meaning of the things I say.

Amazing.

Library

I have never seen her look so happy in her car seat.

I think it is because she was able to communicate with me that she wanted to go on a car ride. One thing was for sure, she did not want to walk to the park this evening.

I took her to the library. The house with books.

Up the stairs we went - into the children's area.

I was able to quickly steer her around the computers, and over to visit with the gerbil. "Shhhh, don't wake the gerbil."

Into the picture room we went, and read book upon book upon book. With each thoughtfully and carefully picked book, she snuggled in close to me on my lap so that we could read together.

Eventually, the crayons and coloring pages beckoned her over to the table.

Coloring turned into a game of pick-up-crayons, with me constantly singing the clean up song. At least that works!

She began to pretend to draw on the spines of the books, and then she eventually did write on some of the spines. Luckily crayons wipes off easily.

Somehow, the crayon dumping morphed into her pulling tiny fistfuls of books off of the shelves and throwing them violently and carelessly onto the floor.

This was followed by some of the sweetest, most beautiful laughter I have ever heard.

I tried saying no, in a serious tone.

That laughter made me laugh however! I'm not sure my seriousness was taken seriously.

After a little bit of clean up, the little toddler got scooped up, and swished away from the library with 6 new books. On to a waiting bath.

Baby Doll

She has taken a feverish interest in baby doll for the past week.

She has three babies, but only the one with the pretty pink dress dress, pacifier, and diaper is her baby.

She asks for her at random points throughout the day, then scurries around looking for her.

At times, her pleas for "baby" sound desperate, as if the doll was a real baby, crying, but lost somewhere in the house.

We nurse baby, burp her, put in her paci, then change her diaper. We are sure to use plenty of wipes and cream.

She likes to put baby in her high chair, go to her drawer in the kitchen, and take out one of her plates and put it on the table in front of baby. Then the lucky baby gets to eat!

Sometimes, I am too slow cleaning the table, and she actually 'feeds' baby real food. Afterwards, we are sure to have baby walk over to the sink to wash her hands and mouth!

She tries unsuccessfully to take a bath with baby.

She goes to sleep hugging baby.

She starts her morning off, in the crib, playing with baby. Oftentimes these mornings, I hear calls for mama, not because she wants out, but because she needs help with the baby's paci.

Yesterday at the Zoo

With my sister in town, with my nephew in tow, I decided to make it a short day at work so that we could head to the zoo.

The commuter train home was a half-hour late, though this was inconsequential as my nephew was just waking up from his nap as I got home.

We packed up in record time, and were at my daughter's daycare 15 minutes after I got home.

Off to the zoo we went.

She was so excited when we got there.

She actually knew where we were.

She saw the pictures of the animals, poised larger than life upon the top of the light poles, and was excited.

We rolled up to the entrance, when I saw the closed sign.

I had misread the hours online, and we missed the last entrance to the zoo by a mere 6 minutes.

She was devastated, while my nephew, 9 months her junior, was happily kicking his feet in his stroller.

We slowly rolled them back in the car, and packed the strollers and bags.

We went across the busy street to the park I had never been to before.

They both had a blast!

Great parallel play was in action!

There were an amazing number of bugs out, but the large sandbox, old fashioned teetering toys, and novel slides and stairs proved to be just as fun as the zoo.

It was great.

A failed evening at the zoo resulted in a very happy family.
